About Us

Home-Start Watford & Three Rivers was established in 1993, following collaboration with the local Social Services Teams, the Watford CVS and our first Chair Betty Reed.

Since then the scheme has grown year on year and currently has 7 members of staff and over 100 volunteers who support families, work in our charity shop and govern our scheme.

The thriving Management Committee made up of Trustees and Advisors all of whom bring specialist skills and experience to support the scheme.

We are based in the centre of Watford.

This family support service for families in the Watford & Three Rivers area and Hertsmere in Hertfordshire  was set up to offer a service, free at the point of access that would be available to all and completely independent of statutory agencies.

Home-Start Watford & Three Rivers recruits and trains local volunteers and carefully matches a volunteer to visit a family in their own home for a couple of hours a week.  All of the families we support must have at least one child under five.

Each year over 120 families in Watford, Three Rivers and Hertsmere receive Home-Start support through a team of volunteers.

Families tell us:

“My volunteer has given me more confidence, lots of laugh when needed, someone I could talk to, who would not judge me. She has given me a better approach to life.”

“My volunteer helped me to see that you don’t have to be perfect. She helped me to realise that I am more than just a mum.”

“The children loved her and I felt I could trust her explicitly.”

“It has helped me to keep sane. Great emotional support and someone who was genuinely interested in me and my child.”
