Are you a professional wanting to refer a family?

If you are a health visitor, Children’s Centre worker, doctor or any other professional working with families and you think someone would benefit from our service, you can make a referral on their behalf, with their consent. Please phone us on 01923 248010 to discuss the family situation and if a referral is thought to be suitable we will send you a referral form to complete with the family and return to us.

Alternatively, you can download a NEW Referral Form MAY 2018 this is a word document. Please check your download folder. We have also provided guidelines for making a referral which you can download here Guidelines for referrals (PDF). Note you will need a PDF reader installed on your computer to read these files.

We do not operate a waiting list: family support is governed by the availability and suitability of volunteers. We will always give you guidance as to the current situation regarding volunteer availability.

Self Referral

Here at Home-Start Watford and Three Rivers we accept self-referrals. If you are a family with a child under five years and feel that we would be able to support you, then please do not hesitate to contact us. The best way is call our Home-Start office and a member of our team will take some details from you. A Home-Start coordinator will then contact you to arrange a time to visit you in your home. When the coordinator visits they will to talk to you further to see how Home-Start can help you.

If Home-Start is able to offer you support your details will be placed on a matching list while we look for a suitable volunteer. Our Home-Start volunteers are all trained and coordinators carefully match a volunteer to support your families individual needs.

Matching List

Home-Start Watford & Three Rivers understands that it is not ideal for families to have to wait too long for support. However due to the importance we place on having the right volunteer for each family, there may be a delay to ensure that matching is carefully carried out. It is always our aim to keep this matching list as short as possible but inevitably with so many families wanting support there may be a delay.

Home-Start Watford & Three Rivers will visit families within two weeks of an initial referral. This visit will be carried out by a Co-ordinator to inform the family about Home-Start support and assess their needs. The family will then be placed on our matching list until a suitable volunteer is found. Both families and referrers will be contacted on a regular basis during this period and if alternative support can be found in the interim then this will always be offered to families.
